MIRAFLORES – Smallholders program

Grown in the heart of the Tenza Valley, where high-altitude terrain and volcanic soils meet Colombia’s signature microclimates, this coffee is a true expression of Cundinamarca’s natural beauty.

Nestled on the eastern side of the Colombian Andes, this unique coffee-growing region sits within the Cundiboyacense high plateau. Steep slopes, sudden elevation changes (from 1,500 to 3,400 masl), and cool, consistent temperatures of 16 to 17°C create ideal conditions for slow cherry maturation and exceptional cup complexity. Rich clay-based soils and steady rainfall complete the picture, nurturing balanced, high-quality coffees.

This lot is part of the Miraflores Selection — meaning ‘behold the flowers’ — a name that honours Colombia’s floral abundance and regional diversity. Miraflores showcases the finest seasonal coffees from standout departments like Tolima, Antioquia, Risaralda, Nariño, Cauca, Cundinamarca and Huila. Each region brings its own terroir-driven flavour profile to the cup.

In Cundinamarca, smallholder farmers grow Castillo, Colombia, Caturra and Typica varieties. Cherries are carefully hand-picked and processed at individual farms, where they are pulped, fermented for 24 to 36 hours, and then dried. Final milling and grading take place in Bogotá before the coffee is packed and exported in traditional fique sacks.

Beyond coffee, these communities cultivate crops like corn, bananas, potatoes and beans — creating biodiverse landscapes and sustainable farming systems.

The Miraflores program celebrates both main and fly-crop harvests, offering renewed seasonal focus and a steady rotation of Colombia’s freshest and most expressive coffees, curated for roasters like us who seek nuance, quality and a true sense of origin.
