CASA NEGRA

Grown by Carlos at Finca la Casa Negra, this coffee is part of the new Single Estate program monitored by Cofinet. This process involves fermenting the cherries inside Grainpro bags for 48 hours. Because temperatures in Armenia can be quite high, the Grainpro bags are placed inside water tanks to reduce and stabilise the temperature which allows for a more controlled fermentation. The coffee is then pulped and placed on raised beds for 18 days until it reaches ideal moisture content of 11%. This microlot is 100% Caturra. This variety originated in Minas Gerais, Brazil. It is a natural mutation of Red Bourbon. Caturra produces more coffee and is more resistant to plant diseases than Bourbon.

Carlos is a third-generation coffee farmer who inherited two farms when his father Hernando Arcila passed away 20 years ago. For many years his focus was on producing high yields but in 2020 he enrolled in our Single Estate program in search of producing high quality coffees in volume. After one year of hard work Carlos is ready to offer the world a high quality coffee with two harvests per year and has the intention of building long term relationships.
